How to Create a WordPress Child Theme

WordPress theme is fantastic and there are millions themes for different purpose like eCommerce themes,blogs themes etc. But we need to change themes colors, buttons,header,footer and some functionality etc. If you create make changes in directly themes then it is a wrong way When themes updates available and update it then your changes is loss. The problem is that modifying a theme even slightly prevents you from updating it to a newer version in the future, because if you do try to update, you lose all your changes.

How Child Themes Work And Why Use Child Themes for Any themes

Because  child theme is a separate theme which depends on parent themes and we can change or create any functionality child theme according to need and child theme is a great idea for modifying theme core functionality.

Child themes should always be used if you plan on modifying even a single character in your theme. There are two very good reasons: updates and organization.

Creating A Child Theme for any parent themes in simple steps

Creating child theme is extremely simple you can follow my simple steps which is listed below.

  • 1) Create child theme directory in themes folders like twentyfourteen-child.
  • 2) Create child theme style sheet with information about your child theme and stylesheet file name must be style.css. Now cope the below code and paste it in just created file.



In this code two things are most important for child theme creation first template and second theme name which define theme name and parent theme name
  • 3)Now need to import parent theme style sheet in child theme for same styling So need to create a new file with namefunctions.php

And copy below code and and paste it in just created file

Now your child theme is completed you can make changes here and overwrite any style changes and functionality changes like if you want to changes in header file then need to copy header files from parent themes and paste it in child theme folder and makes changes according to need . This is a great and standard way to prevent changes loss.
